Mosaic crochet headbands

Although it is some time since I have blogged I have actually been very busy with crochet! The Scottish Highlands has had a bumper crop of visitors this year and I have been busy replenishing shelves with various crochet items that have been sold.

All of this has led to a dearth of anything new being created, and it has really only been this week that the pressure has eased and I have felt able to try my hand at something new.

These are adapted from a pattern by Entrelac Cat Designs, using King Cole Riot in in Blue Jeans (3437), Dude (400) and Stormy (3079) with King Cole Panache in cream (2077) and Stonewash (2069) on a 4.5mm hook.

You will notice that the top two have a distinct curve to their shape as the starting chain edge is tighter than the last row. I tried to correct this by doing a chainless foundation (US) single crochet in the bottom one, but I would say that this is still a work in progress.

Interestingly, although mosaic crochet is something new for me, I have used this stitch before; as it is effectively ‘moss stitch’ made in two colours. See my previous projects here, here and here. Which just goes to show that nothing learned is ever wasted!

Twiddlemuff no. 5: Rainbow riot

My latest twiddlemuff:

Made in King Cole Riot dk 1843 (rainbow) and Sirdar Country style 4 ply 634 (Sybil). This was a good stash-buster as the Rainbow riot yarn was left over from my crocodile stitch gloves (here) and the Sirdar yarn was left over from the child’s fingerless gloves (here).
It is interesting how different the different halves of the rainbow ball turned out to be. I geuss my gloves had all the red-orange-yellow and the twiddlemuff has all the green-blue-indigo-violet. Anyway it looks quite cheery.

Crocodile stitch fingerless gloves

You may remember that a while ago I bought some crocodile stitch fingerless gloves made by Skye Cottage Crochet (see here )

There seem to be several versions of the crocodile stitch out there and I used this tutorial by the Twisted yarn and this Bonita patterns blog to help.

Mine are made in King Cole Riot dk ‘Rainbow’ on a 4.5mm hook starting off with a chain of 38 which gave me 6 scales for the cuff. The hand part of the glove was done in half trebles, and I added a couple of rows to make a thumb at the end.

The scales are not as crisp as the Skye Cottage version, but I am pleased with the gloves overall, and it is nice to have practised this lovely stitch and made something useful. OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA
